I am an early childhood educator, family child care provider, advocate for play, and mom. My play based family child care program, Oh Happy Day, is located in Kansas. I have used my BS in Elementary Ed and Minor in Early Childhood Ed for the last 20 years running my Preschool/Family Child Care business. Over the years I have evolved as a teacher and I proudly defend a child's right to learn through play.
I've seen first-hand how magical and meaningful play can be. My experience has taught me children truly learn the best through child-led play and I have been able to create a "Yes" environment that respects the natural process of learning. Children solve problems, strive for independence, build relationships, collaborate with others, try, fail, struggle and accomplish tasks they set their minds to. The children in my program are empowered when given the freedom to play in a nurturing environment.
I began my Instagram page in 2012 as a way of to share all the activities we did in our classroom and share stories about my own family. Fast forward to today and I now have mulitiple social media platforms that have grown into a place for providers to explore process art, sensory experiences and the importance of play in their own homes and classrooms.
My hope for my web page and social media pages is to provide a place for teachers and families to understand the fundamentals of child development and play so they can feel less overwhelmed by everything that is being thrown at them. I want teachers to be empowered with the skill and strategies to embrace child-led meaningful play.
